In June, we released two concept design options for community feedback to understand what locals valued and wanted in the future Bowen Jetty.

Thank you to the Bowen locals who shared their thoughts through our community pop-up stalls and online survey.

Comments are now closed, and we are reviewing all feedback to help refine and shape the final concept design for the future Jetty.

Stay tuned — the final design will be unveiled to the community later this year.

Concept Design 1

About option 1

This option maintains the general alignment and linear aspect of the Bowen Jetty, seeking to enhance the features and activities that the community currently use it for.

There is a loop feature at the end that allows for a wide, sheltered seating space. It has a lower deck with a dedicated fishing area and an additional recreational berthing area. A stepped concrete water edge treatment is integrated into the causeway to allow additional seating and rest areas while also providing steps down to the water.

The straight alignment offers visitors an experience to walk alongside the old jetty with points of respite and reflection along the journey to appreciate the past with the new.

Concept Design 2

About option 2

This option offers a different user experience with a curved jetty alignment that ends with a wide, sheltered space.

The curved feature allows different viewing perspectives, including sunset and sunrise. The alignment intertwines with the existing jetty piles, symbolising exploration and connection with history, culture and the surrounding environment. Its unique form provides an opportunity to make the Bowen Jetty an iconic landmark in the region.

It has multiple areas along the jetty for seating and fishing with a recreational berthing area. Other new features include an in-water sculpture garden which will appear in low tide and a boardwalk through the mangroves. The sculpture garden provides opportunities for engagement with local Juru artists to create Bowen artwork.
