We heard from the community during the June engagement about two concept design options and now have a final concept design for the new jetty.

The next design stage involves working through details, and this design may change before construction. We’ll keep you updated as the project progresses.

The final concept design reflects the things the community has told us are important like better accessibility for all types of users, ample shade and seating, toilets, historical and cultural education, fishing facilities and integration of Juru people artwork.

Key features of the final concept design include:

  • maintains the general alignment and linear aspect of the existing Bowen Jetty, with a loop feature at the end that allows for a wide, sheltered seating space
  • dedicated fishing areas and facilities including lower deck
  • a stepped concrete water edge treatment is integrated into the causeway to allow additional seating and rest areas while also providing steps down to the water
  • multiple rest points with seating, shade and drinking fountains
  • toilets
  • area for food truck / coffee cart
  • retains existing piles (where possible)
  • information / education panels on history and culture
  • Juru art integration within designated areas like shelters and flooring
  • causeway surface upgrades
